Submitting proposal for potential clients is a time-consuming process! Let me re-emphasise the word POTENTIAL. Yes – it means they may or may not use your products or services depending on their requirements. As a supplier, it’s painfully difficult to gauge what they are after and some of the questions that you may be asking yourself before submitting a proposal are:
- Is it worth spending the time to write a proposal?
- What are the chances of getting this client on board?
- Are they just fishing around?
- Do they know what they are after?
- How much profit could I make from this client if they do come on board?
There are probably hundreds of more questions that would pop up in your head and from experience, a proposal is all about having the opportunity for the client to see what you’re offering and if done well, the client will engage on your services and products. One important lesson I have learnt from all the years developing and submitting any proposal is to make sure you personalise it. What I mean by that is to make your proposal stand out from the competitors by adding personal touches so the client can easily relate to your offerings. As an example, I recently had to submit a proposal to a client and I decided to add their logo and some of their own digital assets to create a mock up of the solution. This not only gives them an idea of how they could be using your products, but it clearly shows you’ve spent some effort in creating the mockup is serious about working with them.
I have attached a copy of the first 5 pages of our Advertise Me Proposal Template so you can get an idea of what we normally include in our proposal. Click on the link below to download.

Below is a summary of today’s main activities, tasks and accomplishments:
- Chasing up payment for sponsored blog posts on a website I own – it has been over 3 months and I still haven’t received payment. Next time I’ll get them to pay first before publishing their articles. I didn’t have a problem receiving payment from this person before so I’m not sure why this time it’s taking so long now
- Created a mockup for one of our Advertise Me clients promoting the Social Wall product
- Discovered that the cron jobs I set up for a few sites were not working because of a permission issue. I created the cron job through the VestaCP control panel which adds the job in the admin user crontab. The cron job actually requires root permission so I basically re-created the jobs using crontab and added them to the root account
I went for a 30-minute walk with the kids. Since the kids are on school holidays, it’s proving to be a bit difficult to go to the gym.
2x slice of bread and jam
1x slice of bread and Vegemite
1x Wrap with vegetables (tomato, alfalfa), slice of cheese and soy
1x Bowl of pasta with potatoes and melted cheese
The Time zone Challenge – One of the most challenging aspects when working with companies in different countries is the time zone. We have partners in based in Netherlands, Ukraine and Vietnam and the time difference ranges from 4 to 10 hours. That means during the start of our business day in Australia it is almost midnight in Netherlands or Ukraine so you normally we won’t be able to receive a response until late afternoon or the next business day.
